When I look back at the start of my design career, I remember trying so hard to appear like I knew what I was doing. There were times I felt completely lost, finding it challenging to design compelling work and just to work with others. I thought everyone else had it figured out. Everyone seemed to have better portfolios, clearer direction, more confidence. But what I eventually learned (and wish I knew sooner) is that nobody really has it all together at the start. Nobody! Some of the most successful designers I know started by fumbling through, learning on the job. They made a lot of guesses along the way. The truth is you figure it out by doing not by waiting to feel ready. Every project, critique, and conversation is part of the process that improves your instincts, refines your skills and builds your confidence.
